Mar 11 Rainbow Sugar Rush Party

I’m 100% the Mom who will invite you (or your kids) over for a party and serve you treats till your tummy hurts. I think parties are the best time to indulge and celebrate and I certainly don’t hold back on my candy offerings. I was excited to create this party with limitless candy for guests to enjoy.

I also love a good rainbow and whenever possible I throw in some disco balls for good measure and twinkle. Bright colors and disco balls are always appealing, add in mounds of candy and you will have a party not soon to be forgotten!

If you follow our blog you will know that we are not bakers here. I always order my cupcakes and cakes from my local grocery store and then add my own decoration to whatever frosting color I requested. In this case I requested vanilla cupcakes with a light sky blue buttercream frosting. I then topped it with a 2” cut strip of rainbow airheads and bowed them across the top of the cupcake. To finish it off I added store bought bagged white frosting (with a tip) at the base of the rainbow to look like clouds. Lastly, I added the polka dot cupcake wrappers and put on the cake stand. So incredibly easy!

The candy charcuterie took some planning and running around to ensure I had enough candy per color to create the beautiful visual effect. I had great luck with orange, yellow and red at my local grocery store, Walmart and dollar Tree. Purple, green and blue definitely took more time to acquire enough to fill the space. I found when it comes to Haribo products in solid colors your best bet is hitting up any gas station as the grocery stores seem to carry more of a mixture of colored gummies and not the solids. To get a great representation of ALL colors I had a lot of luck with Old Time Candy online. I have found them to be more affordable than most other online candy retailers AND you can shop candy by color. Walmart carries candy by color in their party section, not their regular candy isle. I would start there if possible and build on from there.

The rainbow plates I have had on hand for a few years now from Crate And Barrel. They are small appetizer plates and super eye catching. These plates are no longer available to purchase but we have linked some alternatives below for you. I purchased the cups and napkins on Amazon (linked below) but after the fact saw that Walmart has a great selection of solid plates, cups, cutlery and napkins at an affordable price in their party section of their stores.

I love a great grid anything and was excited to get to use my new black and white scalloped tablecloth for this set up.

Below are a few different options for how you can stage your place settings depending on the occasion being celebrated.

For the balloon garland I purchased the carnival assortment of Qualatex balloons in both 5” and 11”. I also used simple white balloons in 5” and 11” for the clouds at the base of the rainbow.

The yellow melamine cake stand is my most prized stand I own. I was so excited to be able to include it here! It adds a big pop of color and works well with the blue frosting on the cupcakes.

If your party is a St. Patty’s celebration, add some extra decor like a golden horse shoe

I think I’m really funny but nobody else does. That’s okay, I like to humor myself. I made this T-shirt for my son, Jensen and it simply says “Something Green” cause you know, on St. Patty’s Day you wear something green. There isn’t a special cut for this, I simply made it with green iron-on vinyl and pre-programmed lettering found on my Brother scan and cut cutting machine.

To create the balloon garland you will need 2 bags of balloon assortments, in 11” and 5”. I used Qualatex brand carnival assortment for both sizes to ensure the colors matched. The different sizes help bring dimension and playfulness to the garland. For the clouds you can do 2 different sizes or simply do 11” white balloons. You will also need fishing line, balloon dots and a way to hang your garland like command hooks. The fishing line will be used to hang your garland and tie the balloon clusters together. The balloon dots are used to add in 5” balloons after the garland is hung to give it the dimension and playfulness. We do NOT recommend using the balloon strips to create the garland. It is soo much easier and much better looking to create garlands by tying the balloons together. You can find tons of how to videos on youtube or we give a small tutorial here.

My favorite step of throwing parties is the creative brainstorming at the beginning of each party plan. Thinking out the food being served, activities, decorations, all of it! No detail spared. I get the most joy out of the details. Some say I go over the top (in a good way) and I like that, the unexpected delight.
