Kailey's Light Up Lavender Bat Mitzvah

Kailey's Light Up Lavender Bat Mitzvah

It was such a pleasure to style decor for Kailey’s Bat Mitzvah. We met her family before she was even born and has grown up as a sweet friend to Scout. She is becoming a truly remarkable young woman and her Bat Mitzvah was an absolutely beautiful and meaningful celebration. Kailey knew she wanted her celebration to be done in a light lavender color early on. As the style of decor she was hoping to create evolved though the months of planning and a venue change, I think we found an aesthetic that was fitting of the importance of the event but still perfect for a thirteen year old.

The event was held at Trinity Tree Farm in Maple Valley, WA. The location is lovely and well set up for a celebration of this size, with a space for the ceremony, bar, kitchen, tables & chairs and outdoor gathering places. The chandeliers and lights strung overhead were part of the venue which added to the ambiance, especially once the sun went down.

Kailey wanted to make sure that her guests had a good time at the event and was hoping everyone would be willing to get out on the dance floor. The DJ facilitated lots of games and song selections to make her wish reality. It was such a fun party!

Other fun elements included in the party were:

  • Yard games including KUBE, Cornhole, Giant Jenga, Giant Yatzee and Giant Connect Four

  • Photo Booth with fun Props

  • Light up elements including wearable glowing party flair

  • Italian Soda Bar

  • Airbush Tattoo Artist

  • Dessert Bar

Adorable Kailey posing in the photo booth. Instead of using a photo booth service, we used a backdrop stand, with decor pieces and then used a ring light that held a phone and then an external box light. We also provided a small basket of props like hats and feather boas. Guest also had fun with the light up accessories which made for a lot of fun both on the dance floor and as photo props.

We purchased the welcome art from Etsy and then once customized (which was very easy), had it printed through Costco. All other signage was created in Canva and printed at Costco.

We created a self serve dessert bar with lots of white skirting and drapes and then lit them up with bar lights that gave an ombre effect with the lavender. Cindy used her Glowforge machine to create the custom “Kailey” name sign out of wood that we painted the light orchid color to match the rest of the decor. We opted to use faux silver dollar eucalyptus garlands with foam faux rosed in light lavender and ivory. To further personalize the table we included framed photos of Kailey in gold and white frames along with white dessert plates and lavender candle holders.

The faux floral garance was from Ling’s floral and we are so happy with how it turned out. It looked lovely and exactly as represented in their photos. It came in a box but with a little steam it opened up and was perfect for the ceremony. The Torah scrolls rolled over the flowers quite a few times and fresh flowers might not have held up, where with this garland we were able to zip tie in place.

The venue was perfect for a larger event during the pandemic. It felt like a beautiful building but had doors that opened up to the outside in all directions so it was well ventilated.

We decorated the a special chair that Kailey was lifted in during a celebratory dance and showcased it in front of these fun new backdrop arches that we anchored balloon garlands to.

Kailey really had her heart set on a dessert buffet and included delicious Crubl Cookies and Trophy Cupcakes along with several family recipes. Small portions allowed guests to have several desserts. The foam flowers are so easy to work with, and are especially nice in an area like a dessert table. I created these floral arrangements several weeks ahead of time with old candle holders that we painted white and floral foam. My goal for using them was to give the display height and symmetry so I could actually place flowers in the same places for each arrangement. Even better is that after the event I was able to deconstruct them and will be able to use all the floral pieces again.

Cindy was able to make these adorable light up acrylic pieces with her Glowforge machine. They bases allow you to light up the design any color and we think this is such a fun way to add a pop of youthful personalization to an event. We included these signs at the bars, welcome table, food buffet area and at the DJ’s table.

Near the food buffet we set up a water station with a Revo barge and light up purple ice cubes so this station glowed into the eventing. We created a long balloon arch and with this one we mixed up several shades and sizes of balloon colors. Several elements of this table lit up so it looked really cool once it got dark and created a fun ambiance for the outdoor space.

Cindy & I used her Glowforge machine to create Kailey’s names and then painted it a muted orchid color to match the party. After the event Kailey can hang it in her room. This photo shows how we hung it with fishing line and since it was made of light weight wood, it was easy to have on the curtain stand.

Kailey came to us with a centerpiece look upon the wood rounds and also wanted to have the centerpiece light up somehow. We used lavender fairy lights wrapped around mini faux eucalyptus wreaths and then adde the foam roses with wire. The hurricane candle holders were from Dollar Tree, but the monogram logo was created by painting the inside of the vase with acrylic paint in the matching orchid color and they layering removable vinyl I cut on my Silhouette electronic cutter on the outside of the glass. We used the same technique with the acrylic table numbers

DJ booth with our new balloon background stands. My husband made a collection of these background stands for us to display with balloons. I added Kailey’s name in removable lavender vinyl and Cindy created an amazing balloon display with three sizes of lavender balloons (5”, 11” and 36” balloons).

We created a fun and easy to use photo booth by tucking a fun photo backdrop and table full of props out one of the side doors. We used box lighting and a ring light tripod so that guests could pop their own phone to take photos. This ended up being a big hit, especially among the kids guest old enough to have their own phones. We also created a mobile “Light It Up” station filled with lots of glow and light up accessories that guests were encouraged to wear out on the dance floor, but of course they were a hit in the photo booth as well!* Coordinated lavender signs were created in Canva and printed using Costco print service then mounted the signs on foam board from Dollar Tree.
